COMPANIES and individuals have just days left to take advantage of a unique opportunity to name a man who is selling his own title on Ebay - to raise money for charity and take his mum on holiday.

Daniel John Leslie White, is auctioning his name and lease it for a decade to the highest bidder in exchange for any name they choose to give him.

The 18-year-old, who is believed to be the first person ever to do this, wanted to auction his name in order to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and pay for his mum Karen, 45, to go on holiday because she has been suffering from ill health.

The name auction, which started on Thursday, May 1, attracted 700 views and 29 bids but complaints let to the item being temporarily removed.

Mr White from Norwich said: “The auction should've finished on Monday but someone complained that it was an intangible item I couldn't prove was mine - but it's my name.

“I've put it back on and relisted it mentioning deed poll six times in the first sentence but it's ruined the momentum of it. My highest bid is £400 at the moment.”

Mr White's name will continue to be for sale until Saturday but he is considering trying to up the stakes and move it to another auction site.

He added: “I'm so disappointed, I was hoping for a lot more than £400 at the beginning.”

Part of the quirky purchase of buying Mr White's name is that the buyer chooses his replacement name for the ten year lease.

Mr White said he has no problems with losing his name for 10 years and had expected a company rather than a person to purchase his name - as it would create the prime advertising avenue - although he has set a limit of ten letters for his new name.

Some suggestions had started to appear on Mr White's own website www.choosemyname.co.uk such as T, as in Mr T, I-Am-Officially-The-Worlds-Most-Stupid-Person, Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches and Girly Girly Girly Pants.

The current Mr White has also been arranging the legal contract to bind him to that name for the decade and the only names not allowed are if they are “rude or racist.”

He said: “I have sorted out the contracts in case someone thinks I might've pulled a fast one and carried on using Daniel John Leslie White.”

Part of the money collected through the auction will also go towards Mr White's future travelling plans.
