FELIXSTOWE port was operating normally again today after a stop-start night caused by blustery winds.
Officials said wind speeds got just above 45mph - the limit for safe operating of the huge quayside cranes.
Cones were put in place along the A14 Port of Felixstowe Road in case there was a need to put Operation Stack in place and park lorries on the dual carriageway.
Highways Agency officials attended and signs were put up on the A14 warning drivers of possible disruption, while port staff sent messages to hauliers asking them to reschedule their journeys.
Gates had to be closed at both Landguard and Trinity Terminals from time to time during the afternoon and early evening and congestion on the port was described as severe, though there was none of the chaos suffered last week when the area was gridlocked.
As the winds eased the situation improved and this morning the port was open as usual.
Stronger winds are expected again towards the end of the week.
