The victims were at the off slip road on the London-bound A13 with the Stifford interchange, near Thurrock, when their vehicle struck a lamppost at 4.30am.
The women, who were in a silver Renault Clio, were declared dead at the scene.
The road was closed at the junction with Dock Approach on the London-bound carriageway but has now reopened.
Police have appealed for any witnesses or anyone one who saw two small silver vehicles in close proximity or anyone who saw a silver Clio and a silver VW Golf on the road at the time to call Laindon roads policing unit on 01268 541 312.
