IPSWICH guitarist Toni Vines is today recovering in hospital after a heart attack.
The 56-year-old rocker, best known for his work with The Mean Red Spiders and the Camel Foot Raiders, was taken ill just yards from Ipswich Hospital.
Friend, Evening Star columnist and BBC Radio Suffolk broadcaster Stephen Foster said Mr Vines was being driven by a friend when he was taken ill last Thursday (February 7>
He said: “Toni was with his Shaboogamoo Shufflers colleague Darren Elden when he had difficulty breathing and pains in his chest. Luckily they were driving near Ipswich hospital at the time and he was rushed in.”
Toni, of Lower Dales Road, has been a prominent member of the Ipswich music scene since the late 1980s working with a number of groups.
Mr Foster said: “Toni is recovering on Claydon ward at the hospital and he is in good spirits and thanking God he's still here. He is expected to make a full recovery and we are all wishing him well.”
The 56-year-old works as a theatre technician at the New Wolsey Theatre.
