A DEAL has been struck for a kidnapped British journalist and his Iraqi interpreter to be released, it was reported today.
Radical Iraqi Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's office made the claims in Basra.
Harith al-Edhari, a director of Mr al-Sadr's office, said negotiations had persuaded the captors to free the two CBS employees later today.
The Foreign Office said it was looking into the reports.
A spokesman said: "We are aware of the reports and investigating further."
Iraqi police and witnesses said the two were seized from a hotel in Basra on Sunday.
CBS News said on Monday that its two employees were missing, but it did not identify them.
