BRITISH Energy has rejected a claim from an anti-nuclear group that it used out of date statistics to conclude there is no climate change threat to the Sizewell nuclear site.
The Shut Down Sizewell Campaign claimed consultants commissioned by the company had not taken into account the latest data from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) over sea level rise - data which suggested levels could be higher than previously estimated.
However, the company said the latest IPCC figures had yet to be analysed to extract data relevant to the UK and, because of this, the company's report has been based on a 2001 analysis which was the most up-to-date information available.
It also insisted that the range of sea level scenarios used for the 100-year analysis would not change as a result of the latest IPCC report.
