Floral tributes and teddy bears have been left at the scene of a crash on the A14 that left a young girl dead.

FLORAL tributes and kind messages were today being left at the scene of a horrific road crash that killed a young girl.

Fifteen-year-old Sarah Gaecke, from Ipswich, died on the A14 after the car she was travelling in collided with another vehicle on Friday at about 7.40pm.

Dozens of flowers were tied to nearby trees and laid on the grass at the site of the accident, near the Orwell Crossing truck stop.

Messages and teddy bears were left for the teenage victim by devastated friends and family as they struggle to cope with the tragedy.

A 19-year-old man, also from the Ipswich area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the crash and has been released on bail until the New Year.

The accident, which left two other people injured, led to the closure of the section of the A14 for several hours while emergency services treated the injured and cleared the wreckage.

The crash happened as police dealt with another serious collision, which left a 26-year-old woman with serious head injuries after she was involved in a collision with a bus in Ipswich.

That accident happened in Princes Street near the Drum and Monkey pub at about 6pm yesterday. Police put road closures in place while the woman was treated and a crash investigation was launched.

The woman, who was unconscious at the scene, was taken to Ipswich Hospital where she remained today. Suffolk police said it was now thought her injuries were not life threatening.

In the A14 crash, two people were treated at the scene which involved a Volkswagon Polo Car and a Reno Car.

The second vehicle involved in the collision overturned and firefighters had to cut the 48-year-old female driver out of the wreckage.

The woman was taken to Ipswich Hospital suffering whiplash and possible neck injuries.

Andy Nunn, assistant divisional officer at the Suffolk Fire Service, said debris from the accident was spread over 200 metres.

He described the accident as “particularly nasty”.

He said: “We had to search the area for further casualties. The crash scene was probably over 150metres or 200 metres and we were not able to confirm that all the casualties were actually spoken for at first.

“The front end of one of the vehicles was badly damaged and we had to cut the roof off the second vehicle to get the casualty out.”

Firefighters remained at the scene for an hour.

The carriageway was closed for several hours as emergency services dealt with the crash and police are now conducting an investigation into the incident.

The fatality means that 12 people have lost their lives on Suffolk's roads in just over a month.

Anyone who witnessed either accident are asked to call Suffolk Police on 01473 613500.
