ROAD transport of different shapes and sizes will come under the spotlight this weekend with two of Ipswich's biggest autumn events.

ROAD transport of different shapes and sizes will come under the spotlight this weekend with two of Ipswich's biggest autumn events.

The Copdock Bike Show at Trinity Park, formerly the Suffolk Showground, on Sunday will give bikers the chance to compare machines and buy accessories for their vehicles.

The show always attracts thousands of visitors and moved from its original site in Copdock to the showground several years ago because of its popularity - last year around 10,000 people visited the show.

Also on Sunday, Ipswich Transport Museum is inviting people to ride on some of its lovingly-restored buses.

They will be taking to the roads on some of their former routes and also going on a circular route over the Orwell Bridge and linking in with the town centre.

A total of 20 buses, the oldest dating back to 1949, will be giving rides and many others, including a former Eastern Counties Bristol bus being restored with a £50,000 grant from the National Lottery, will be on static display.

There will be no parking for the event at the Cobham Road museum but there will be a park and ride centre at Ransome's Europark with buses every 15 minutes and a free shuttle from the town centre on the route over the Orwell Bridge. The event runs from 11am to 4pm.

Event organiser Mark Smith explained “This is the 11th bus event we have done and our visitors love the nostalgia.

“We will even be issuing passengers with old penny coins so they can pay the bus conductor. It should be a lot of fun.”

Younger enthusiasts will be able to take a break on the Ipswich Community Playbus and there will be displays and trade stands in the ,useum for enthusiasts.
