TWO kindergartens in Suffolk are closed today after the company running them went into liquidation.

The Legend Kindergartens in Ipswich's Bramford Road and at The Willow Hall, Causeway, Needham Market were shut following the financial collapse of the company which owned them, KG & E, formally Legend 1989.

The situation has left some parents struggling to find new day care places for their children after they were given a week's notice of the closure.

One of the parents affected by the closure is Nicola Housden.

Her two children, aged four and 14 months, had been at the Bramford Road nursery.

Mrs Housden, of Waterloo Road, Ipswich, said: “I'm fairly unhappy about it.

“I was given seven days' notice that the nursery was going to close.

“No working parent wants to be in a position where they have such little time to secure alternative childcare.

“I made complaints about the state of the building, but this still came like a bolt out of the blue.”

Mrs Housden, 32, said despite the short notice, she had managed to find a new nursery for her children.

She added: “The girls who worked there were fantastic, they haven't done anything wrong.

“It's the management I'm unhappy with.”

Two sister kindergartens which were run, but not owned, by Legend remain open under the name Chica Chico in Woodville Road, Ipswich, and Station Road, Stowmarket.

Stephen Rout, who is handling the administration of the company, confirmed that KG & E went into liquidation on November 12. He added that the company's assets would now be realised and creditors paid if possible.

The Evening Star tried to contact the owner of Legend Kindergarten, Nicholas Gibbs, but he was unavailable for comment.
