David Ruffley, MP for Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds, has come up with the idea of asking large house building companies in Stowmarket to sponsor a temporary portable building fitted out as changing rooms.
Mr Ruffley said: “I have launched this new initiative because the football community are desperate to have changing facilities at Chilton Fields.
“We need to find a practical solution now for the short term.”
Football teams in the town have been unable to progress in the leagues because they have no changing facilities to allow away teams to visit.
The situation has been ongoing for several years, with the teams unable to apply for grants as they have no permanent status on the Chilton Fields site where they play.
Mr Ruffley said: “To break this stalemate I am asking large house building companies, who have profited from housing developments in Stowmarket, to provide a temporary building - such as those we see on every building site.
“I hope these companies will see this as an opportunity to contribute to the local community.”
Mr Ruffley is also making a request to Mid Suffolk District Council to provide planning permission for the temporary changing rooms.
In the letter, going out to house builders such as Crest Nicholson and Bovis, he asks: “Would your company be willing to provide, or part-sponsor, a temporary building fitted out for use as a football changing room on Chilton Fields?
“If you were able to assist in this way the local football community would be extremely grateful.”
