ARSONISTS are today being hunted by police after a van and a stolen car were torched in Ipswich.

The H-registered Ford Fiesta was set alight and dumped in an alleyway behind the Queen's Way shopping parade in the town's Racecourse estate at around 2am yesterday.

Then around 4am today a van was set alight on the Queen's Way recreation ground. The blaze is being treated as suspicious by firefighters.

Police said the Fiesta, which was destroyed, had been taken 24 hours earlier from Gainsborough Road.

Flames from the car spread to fencing nearby, destroying an entire panel.

These incidents follow a number of vehicle-related offences in Ipswich.

Earlier this month, Darrell Lambert was sent to prison for 20 weeks after he plagued car owners in Ipswich during April and May.

The 20-year-old, of Hawke Road, pleaded guilty to three charges of taking vehicles without consent, two of interfering with vehicles and one of criminal damage when he appeared in court.
