AN eight-year-old boy was killed in a crash involving seven vehicles on the A14 close to the Suffolk/Cambridgeshire border.
The accident, which happened between Stow cum Quay and Burwell at 12.40pm yesterday, closed the road for almost ten hours.
It involved a Mitsubishi L200 that was towing a caravan, a Mercedes lorry, a Daff lorry, a Volvo lorry, a Mercedes Sprinter van, a BMW 318 and a BMW 530i Touring.
The boy, from Thrapston, Northamptonshire, was travelling in the rear seat of the Mitsubishi.
Meanwhile the 38-year-old driver of the car, believed to be his father, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.
A 37-year-old woman, in the front seat of the vehicle, was treated for shock, while a six-year-old boy and three-year-old girl received minor injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes lorry, a 60-year-old man from Stowmarket, suffered minor injuries along with the driver of the Mercedes van, a 48-year-old man from Ipswich. A passenger in the van, a 19-year-old man from Brandon, suffered serious injuries.
All the injured were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridgeshire.
Paramedics were sent to deal with another accident on the A14 at Claydon at 11.30pm yesterday involving a car and a lorry.
However, an ambulance service spokesman said the driver of the car had left the scene on foot by the time paramedics arrived.
