STEDMUNDSBURY and Ipswich diocese has today announced the appointment of a new advisor for continuing ministerial education.
The Revd Dr Chris Burdon, who will work with recently qualified clergy and senior clergy as a trainer, is currently principal of the northern ordination course in Manchester, which trains new ministers for the Anglican, Methodist and Lutheran churches.
Dr Burdon's new role also includes that of Canon Theologian at St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
He said: “I am attracted by the opportunity to engage in theological education with different people.
“I believe in the whole Church being a learning community - and one that's called to be a prophetic community too. It is the calling of priests, deacons, readers and other ministers to be interpreters who are alert to God and to the world. “So I am excited about becoming part of the teams serving that goal, in the Cathedral Chapter and the diocesan officers.”
Rt Revd Clive Young, the Bishop of Dunwich, said: “We are delighted to welcome Chris to the team. He is an accomplished theological teacher and experienced trainer of ministers. He will help equip us for the many challenges and opportunities facing the diocese.”
Dr Burdon, who grew up in North Essex, replaces Canon Andrew Todd, and will take up his new role in July.
