BOMB disposal teams were called to Southwold after a fishing boat picked up a World War II torpedo in its nets.
The boat picked up the bomb at around 3.30pm on Sunday and lowered it back into the water.
The fisherman then contacted Yarmouth Coastguard about the device and a Navy bomb disposal team from Portsmouth were called in to recover it.
A spokesman from Yarmouth Coastguard said: “The team did not get to Southwold until this morning so until then we were putting out warning messages for boats to avoid the area.
“When they arrived the Navy bomb disposal team were sent out about half a mile from the harbour in Southwold.
“They found the bomb, which was from World War II and weighed 200lbs. Because it was thought to be unstable it was detonated in the water.”
The area was cleared at around 1pm today .
