NAVY personnel blew up an old World War II 200lb American bomb after it was disturbed by a fishing vessel.
The bomb, trawled by a boat half a mile off Southwold, was first assessed by a diver and then blown up underwater by the military yesterday afternoon.
A spokesman for the coastguard said: “There an awful lot of these things lying on the sea bed, although frequently not as big as this - it was one of the larger ones.
“The Navy came and blew it up, there were no other vessels in the vicinity, and no-one was hurt.”
