Peel, who lived at Great Finborough, was last night named the most influential radio star of the past 25 years.
He won the Broadcasters' Broadcaster Award, voted for by fellow DJs and industry bosses.
The special prize marked the 25th anniversary of the awards, which are the most prestigious night in the radio calendar.
Evans scooped the two big prizes of the night. He beat Jonathan Ross to be crowned Music Radio Personality of the Year. His Radio 2 drivetime show won the Entertainment Award.
