INVESTIGATIONS are continuing today after a man was killed on the track near the Ipswich tunnel.
The fatal collision at around 7.10am yesterday caused long delays for commuters travelling into London.
The line was suspended between Ipswich and Manningtree during the morning rush hour and those passengers on the train had to remain on board until the track was cleared at about 9.15am.
British Transport Police said they have now identified the man but are not releasing his name yet.
A BTP spokesman said: “Investigations are ongoing. We will be collating statements from people and handing that information to the coroner who will launch an inquest in due course.”
BTP said the man appeared to have walked into the path of the train.
It is thought he was aged in his 40s and his death was not being treated as suspicious.
