The food safety team at Ipswich Borough Council received a complaint from Kayleigh Quaif who believes she found an insect in her cheeseburger from McDonald's in Tavern Street, Ipswich.
McDonald's said it is taking the complaint seriously and is working to resolve the matter.
A spokeswoman from the council's food safety team said: “We can confirm we have received a complaint. Any complaint we receive we have to investigate.”
Miss Quaif, 18, of Bull Road, Ipswich, said: “I had got half way through the burger and opened it when I saw something black.
“I felt sick so I put it back into the box and took it home.”
A spokeswoman for McDonald's said: “McDonald's prides itself on its stringent hygiene and safety procedures and our first priority is always for the health and wellbeing of our customers.
“We are aware of a complaint being made by a customer regarding an object that she found in an item of food at our Tavern Street, Ipswich restaurant.
“McDonald's takes matters such as these very seriously and our customer services team have been liaising with the customer directly in order for this matter to be resolved as soon as possible.”
