MURDER suspect Steve Wright and his father have still not met or spoken since he was arrested and charged with killing five Ipswich women, it was revealed today.

Conrad Wright, 70, said he would not be going to see his son in top security Belmarsh Prison - unless he was invited.

“I have heard nothing from him at all - no letters, no phone calls,” said Mr Wright, of Queen Street, Walton, Felixstowe.

“The police have told us nothing and we know no more than the public really about what is going on.

“We just feel in limbo and it is very disconcerting and frustrating.”

Steve Wright, a 48-year-old forklift truck driver from London Road, Ipswich, has been charged with the murders of Gemma Adams, 25, Tania Nicol, 19, Anneli Alderton, 24, Paula Clennell, 24, and Annette Nicholls, 29.

He has been remanded in custody and is not due to appear again in crown court until May 1.

Mr Wright senior said: “I would like to see him but I have not been in contact with the prison or asked to see him.

“But I think he should contact me and I am waiting for him to get in touch. I am just going to wait and see.”

The family have lived in Felixstowe since 1980 after moving from Norfolk.

Mr Wright worked at the Port of Felixstowe as a police officer and after his retirement he and his second wife Valerie decided to stay at the resort.

His son, who was born in Erpingham in Norfolk, once worked on the QE2 cruise liner. He also ran pubs in Haverhill, London, Southend and Norwich.

He has been married twice and has two grown-up children who live in London and Wales.

Mr Wright said he and his son had not seen each other for four years but had not fallen out. They had just drifted apart, seeing less of each other after his son moved to Ipswich.
