TWO families are in mourning today after an evening of tragedy on Suffolk's roads.

The two fatalities occurred within six hours of each other yesterday in the west of the county.

A 24-year-old man was killed when his blue Fiat Cinquecento left the road and hit a tree on the A1088 at Tostock, near Elmswell, just after 11.30pm.

Emergency services were called to the crash, which occurred near Elmswell Park House, to help free the male driver.

However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are keen to trace witnesses to the incident and particularly want to speak to a driver who may have collided with an animal near to where the fatal crash happened.

Elsewhere another man was killed when his car also crashed into a tree.

The accident occurred in Undley Road, Lakenheath.

Around 5.30pm, a silver Vauxhall Vectra left the road and went into a ditch, before hitting the tree.

Fire crews from Mildenhall and Brandon were called to help free the male driver.

The 34-year-old victim was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
