Mrs Clark appeared to have died of natural causes, an inquest in Chelmsford, Essex was told.
But coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray was told that further medical tests were needed to establish a definitive cause of death.
Mrs Clark was found dead at her home in Hatfield Peverel, Essex, on Friday. She was released from prison four years ago after appeal court judges cleared her of murdering her two baby sons.
Mrs Beasley-Murray adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.
