The two rush-hour collisions caused delays for drivers which lasted throughout the morning
Drivers stuck in the traffic jams were given water, distributed through an operation by Cambridgeshire police, to help them cope with the heat.
Emergency services were called to a stretch of road near Cambridge Services at 7.20am where one person had been hurt in a five-vehicle collision.
Traffic was heavily congested in both directions and the Huntington-bound carriageway, where the accident happened, was closed.
At 9.20am two lorries collided on the A14 at Histon, causing further disruption.
Diversions were set up but drivers were warned to avoid the area if possible.
