TRAIN travel was back in chaos tonight after a points failure and damaged overhead wires caused severe disruptions.

Rail operator 'one' was advising passengers not to travel unless absolutely necessary after all services to and from London Liverpool Street, including those travelling through Ipswich, were severely delayed.

Passengers from Norwich and Ipswich were being advised to travel through Cambridge to avoid the problems.

On one of the delayed Ipswich trains, the 4.42pm to Liverpool Street, passengers found themselves returned to Ipswich station nearly three hours after they left for London.

'one' was providing regular updates on the problems on its website www.onerailway.com.
