FOR more than 40 years Bill Baldry has been studying the weather to help pilots navigate a safe landing for their aircraft.
But now the 60-year-old, who was based at Wattisham Airfield, has finally decided to call it a day and bring an end to his distinguished career.
Mr Baldry, of Tannery Road, Combs, near Stowmarket, retired on Friday and celebrated in style with a party at the nearby Gardeners Arms pub.
He said: “I've been doing it 43 years man and boy and started off as a basic weather observer when I was just 16.
“I began at Wattisham and made my way through the ranks working at Stansted, Wiltshire and Cambridge before returning to Suffolk and Wattisham 12 years ago.
“I've done shift work all my life and as that's supposed to make your life span shorter I'm going to enjoy my retirement from day one by exploring the Suffolk countryside and I dare say a few of the local pubs.”
