FREE self-defence lessons are being offered to women in Ipswich in the wake of the murders.

Martial arts expert Mick Blackwell is to offer free self-defence lessons for women at his Academy this weekend.

Mr Blackwell lives in Nacton, where the body of Anneli Alderton was discovered on Sunday, and his Academy is situated close to where the women worked, so he said he was particularly keen to do something to help the community.

He said the free lessons were in response to women being concerned about their safety.

He emphasised that women do not need to be athletic to take part in the classes, which will teach 'break away' techniques to help them escape a potential attacker. They will not focus on any specific martial arts.

If you would like to attend you can simply drop in. Participants should bring a pair of jogging bottoms or trousers, as the class is taken barefoot.

The two classes are free of charge and will be held this Saturday from 10am to 11am and 11am to noon at the Blackwell Academy, Dunlop Road on the Hadleigh Industrial Estate.
