THERE were some extra special deliveries at Ipswich Hospital on Christmas Day.

At Ipswich Hospital Steven McGlachie and his partner Sandy Morey celebrated the birth of their first child at 2.14am.

Archie, weighing 8lbs 4oz, was born on Brook ward and his proud mother declared he was the ''best Christmas present ever.''

Ms Morey, 26, is deputy manager at the Top Shop store in Debenhams, Ipswich, and Mr McGlachie is a farmworker on the Broxtead estate, where they live, in Sutton, near Woodbridge.

The last minute Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve had to be delegated to other members of the families after Ms Morey went into labour at 5am.

Kerry and husband Marc Mickleburgh celebrated their first baby Finlay James who was born at 11.49pm weighing in at 7lbs 10oz.

Mrs Mickleburgh, a mental health nurse from Stowmarket, said: “Everything started at 5.30am on Christmas Eve so I had a 36 hour labour. It was a bit of a relief when he was born.”

Waitress Sarah Kerry, 19, and her delivery driver partner Craig Lockwood, 22, of Combs, were also enjoying time with their first daughter Isabelle Caroline Kerry, who was born at 10.06am on Christmas Day weighing 7lbs 10oz.

Miss Kerry said: “She was due on Boxing Day so it was a lovely surprise.”

Rachael Harding, 32, and partner Darren Thane, a plasterer, of Ulster Avenue, in Ipswich, celebrated the birth of their third child Emily Harding at 6.27pm. Sister to Tiffany, 12 and Harry, 6, Emily weighed 6lbs 15oz.

Miss Harding said: “She was due on January 10 so she was two weeks early. It was a bit of a surprise.”

Only five per cent of babies are born on their due date.
