POLICE have confirmed they were searching the riverbanks near the Orwell Bridge in Ipswich, as part of the inquiry into the death of five women from the town.
POLICE have confirmed they were searching the riverbanks near the Orwell Bridge in Ipswich, as part of the inquiry into the death of five women from the town.
Around a dozen officers were seen in the area taking part in the search, which was being assisted by coastguards, throughout yesterday afternoon.
Police refused to reveal the nature of their investigation but it is understood to be part of an evidence-gathering process in the inquiry.
A police spokesman said officers attended the scene at around 2pm.
“This is part of an ongoing enquiry,” the spokesman said.
Officers from around the country are still assisting Suffolk police with the investigation.
Around 400 officers from 35 forces are working on the inquiry, with more than 250 of the officers from outside Suffolk.
