TWO brothers today told how they had a super, smashing, great time when they took to the oche on revamped classic TV game show Bullseye.

Matthew and Simon Clayden loved watching Bullseye during the 1980s so they were over-the-moon when they were given the opportunity to take part in the new series - now presented by comedian Dave Spikey taking the place of the legendary Jim Bowen.

Matthew said: “My brother and I did love it. It became a bit of a cult thing for us and we tried to watch it as much as possible.

“In fact I think I watched most of the old series; it was something we could watch with the whole family.”

The 26-year-old from Ravenswood said once they found out a new series was coming back to television they decided to apply to be contestants.

Matthew, who prepared himself for his appearance by watching old episodes, said: “I was cracking up for quite a while beforehand and treating it as a real laugh but then I started to get worried about throwing the darts because I hadn't played for a while.

“And I panicked about going on the telly because even if you are nervous you can answer questions but it is hard to play darts.”

Simon, 30, from Kesgrave, said Matthew had done really well on the day though and added that they had only gone on to have some fun.

He said: “It was brilliant but so cheesy and that's why we wanted to do it.

“We were expecting them to have updated the show but everything was the same including the prizes such as hot-tubs.”

And Matthew added: “When I saw the revolving darts wheel I knew that I really was on Bullseye.

“Now it's over I'm fantastically pleased we did go on because I'm never going to be on telly again and now I am a semi-celebrity with my friends!”

Matthew and Simon's appearance will be shown on Challenge on Monday, May 1, at 10pm.

Bullseye

The original show was shown between 1981 and 1995 , and hosted by Jim Bowen .

In its prime it was watched by around 15 million viewers on Sunday evenings.

The show includes three pairs of contestants with one person to answer questions and one darts player.

It had two different closing theme tunes - an upbeat tune played when contestants won the star prize, and a tune in a minor key played when they lost or didn't gamble.

Contestants could win prizes ranging from a new car , a speedboat , a caravan , or a luxury holiday, to the consolation prize of a set of darts, a tankard and a Bendy Bully.
