FOUR people escaped serious injury after a car overturned and came to rest on its roof in an accident on the busy A12.
The crash happened in the southbound carriageway of the road at Stratford St Mary at about 6.25pm yesterday, causing long tailbacks in both lanes.
The silver Ford Mondeo overturned and was seen to be smoking, prompting a rapid response from police, ambulance and fire crews from Colchester, Hadleigh and Ipswich.
The male driver of the car was released by firefighters and taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment, although his injuries were not thought to be serious. No-one else was hurt.
