POLICE in Ipswich are celebrating today after receiving a national accolade for their Lock 'Em Inn alcohol misuse campaign.
Officers in the southern area have been presented with an award for their communications and marketing strategy in relation to the National Alcohol Misuse Enforcement Campaign (AMEC).
The campaign was launched in November 2005 for eight weeks and was aimed at reducing alcohol related offences over the Christmas and New Year period.
Community Safety Sergeant Neil Boast together with his colleagues in the Crime Reduction Unit at Ipswich, came up with the Lock 'Em Inn campaign which included leaflets and posters advertising Ipswich police station cells as a hotel where people wouldn't want to stay.
The leaflets received national and international recognition and other forces throughout the country have adopted them for current and future campaigns.
