A GRIEVING family has today thanked those who paid warm tribute following the death of the Evening Star's theatre critic Carol Carver.A keen supporter of amateur and professional theatre in the region Mrs Carver, 68, a former Evening Star chief sub editor, died on may 23 after a long illness.
A GRIEVING family has today thanked those who paid warm tribute following the death of the Evening Star's theatre critic Carol Carver.
A keen supporter of amateur and professional theatre in the region Mrs Carver, 68, a former Evening Star chief sub editor, died on may 23 after a long illness.
Her son Stephen Askill thanked people for the kind words and messages passed to the family after her death.
He said: "It is lovely for us to know she was such a popular woman. She was very close to, her grandson, my son Oliver and the whole family will miss her very much.
"She gave a lot of herself to a lot of people and I think many appreciated that."
Mrs Carver came to the area with her second husband Bill in 1976.
A character in the newsroom, she will be remembered by former colleagues at The Star as a stickler for journalistic accuracy and clarity. Theatre, however, was her great passion.
Pat Taplin, of the Gallery Players, paid further tribute.
She said: "She was an enthusiastic supporter of amateur theatre and loved first nights. I don't know how she got to so many but it was always lovely to see her.
"Her reviews were always constructive, to the point and were always valued. But what many people forget is that she was also a fantastic director.
"Her productions of The Dresser, Still life and The Tudor Maggot are still very fondly remembered. They were magical pieces of theatre."
Mrs Carver's funeral will take place at the West Chapel, Ipswich crematorium on June 9 at 11am. Donations to be made to Bill's Woods c/o Birketts Solicitors, 24/26 Museum Street, Ipswich.
