A TEENAGER killed in a road accident in Bramford has today been named as 18-year-old Jordan Smith, from Needham Market.

Mr Smith died when his green Rover 220 was in collision with a red Ford Escort on the B1113 in Bramford, also on Wednesday night.

The accident happened at about 9.20pm, and another 18-year-old suffered non-life threatening head injuries in the crash.

Many of the emergency services who worked at the scene of the crash had come straight from an accident on the B1078 in Barking, where a red Rover 214 and an Army jeep had collided at around 8.05pm.

It took fire crews about an hour to free a woman, in her 20s, from her car. She suffered serious leg injuries.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling along the B1113 from Bramford to Claydon around the time of the accident.

Calls should be made to Pc Andrew Andrew Masterson at Suffolk police on 01473 613500.

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old has become the second serviceman from the same base to die on a notorious danger road in the space of seven months - prompting renewed calls for urgent improvements from concerned officials.

The male driver, who has not yet been named by police but was an army soldier based at RAF Honington, was killed following a three-vehicle accident on the A134 at Ingham, near Bury St Edmunds at around 11.30pm on Wednesday.

Jonathan Mills, 22, lost his life at the same spot in May after stumbling into the path of an oncoming car as he walked home to Honington's satellite base at Barnham.

“This is tragic,” said Vic Blackwood, chairman of Ingham Parish Council. “How many more people are going to have to die before something is done?”

Wednesday night's accident happened when the 26-year-old's Vauxhall Vectra was in collision with a red Ford Fiesta and a Land Rover Defender.

The driver of the Land Rover, along with two passengers from the Vectra, were taken to the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury for treatment to minor injuries. They were detained overnight and discharged yesterday.

A spokesman for the county council, which has responsibility for highways, said a 40mph buffer zone had been placed around the village several years ago, but there were no further plans to extend the speed limit.

Anyone who witnessed the accident should contact Pc Matthew Baker, at the Bury roads policing unit, on 01284 774100.
