FIVE football yobs who admitted threatening behaviour prior to an international football match in Ipswich are due to be sentenced next month.

The men, who are all from Ipswich, pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening manner during the incident before the friendly between England and Croatia at Portman Road last year.

They were among a group of 11 facing counts of violent disorder after trouble flared near the Old Rep public house in Tower Street on August 20.

Garry Norman, of Clapgate Lane, Sean Cross, of Henley Road, Dean Peachment, of Abbotsbury Close, Kevin Rossiter, of Brunswick Road and Andrew Richards, of Tuddenham Avenue, all pleaded guilty during a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday .

The men pleaded not guilty to the more serious charge of violent disorder, but prosecutor Robert O'Sullivan accepted their guilty pleas for the lesser charge of threatening behaviour.

They were told sentencing would not take place until the completion of a trial involving five others, who pleaded not guilty to violent disorder following the same incident.

Darren May, of Lagonda Drive, Kevin Snape, of Belstead Road, Philip Brown, of Felixstowe Road, Jason Reader, of All Saints' Road, and Peter Meadows, of Queensgate Drive, will stand trial on September 13.

Another man, Graham Varley, of Gatacre Road, received a bind over for £250 for his part in the incident and had a not guilty verdict on the violent disorder count entered in his name.

Judge Nicholas Beddard warned him he was required to stay out of trouble for 12 months.
