FELIXSTOWE Dock and Railway Company was today fined £250,000 for causing the death of a trainee docker last year.
Dennis Burman, 51, of Brantham, plunged 140 feet to his death from the top of a quayside crane on June 17 last year.
His employers admitted breaching health and safety regulations and today expressed their sympathies to the docker's family.
In ordering the company to pay a £250,000 fine and more than £27,000 in costs, Judge John Holt said the Felixstowe Dock and Railway Company was at fault for not carrying out a proper risk assessment for employees on cranes at Felixstowe port.
The company said it was implementing a £1million safety improvement programme.
