FOOTBALL legend Brian Clough died today after a long fight against stomach cancer.
Clough, 69, died at Derby City Hospital with members of his family at his bedside this morning.
The former England centre-forward was hugely popular with fans, many of whom believed he should have been appointed to manage the international team.
Clough's last game as a manager was at Portman Road in May 1993 when his Nottingham Forest team were beaten 2-1 by Ipswich and his son Nigel scored a penalty. Fans at the game gave him a standing ovation and presented him with flowers to mark his popularity.
Forest won the European Cup twice, in successive seasons, and Clough led them to the First Division title, a feat he also achieved as manager of Derby County.
