A TEACHER tackled a fire in an Ipswich school until the fire service arrived, it was revealed today.
An investigation is going on today into the possibility of an arson attack at Thurleston High School, in Defoe Road,
The school was evacuated around 2.30pm yesterday when artwork caught fire in a classroom. No pupils are believed to be hurt.
David Atkinson, assistant divisional officer, said: "We are still investigating the cause and are treating it as suspicious."
Firefighters were called to an art and design room at the school after children's artwork and material caught ablaze.
They were helped by the heroic efforts of one teacher who managed to quell the blaze with a fire extinguisher until officers arrived.
Mr Atkinson said: "It could have been a lot worse. The school went through its proper evacuation procedure. Everyone was far away from the incident, but a fire in any school is serious."
