A 90-YEAR-OLD woman is among those left seething today after teen vandals went on the rampage causing thousands of pounds of damage in Melton.

Residents woke to find cars scratched, house windows smashed, walls pushed over and fences ripped out after an hour of destruction.

Police are today hunting two teenage boys in connection with the crimes.

Vera Smith, of Hackney Road, woke up to find her garden wall had been pushed over in two places causing hundreds of pounds of damage early Saturday.

Mrs Smith said: "We have been here a long time and nothing like this has happened before. I heard something at about 1.30am but then it went quiet."

Mrs Smith said several neighbours had also been targeted by vandals, who smashed windows and destroyed fences in the area.

Mrs Smith said: "It makes me angry. I am 90-years-old and I do not want all this mess. I suppose I shall have to claim on the insurance but it is a hassle. It's a worry for me."

The vandals struck between 2am and 3am in the Hackney Road, Hackney Terrace, Saxon Way and Turnpike Lane area of the village.

Police estimated the vandals caused damage worth about £4,500.

Melton parish council chairman Graham Laight said: "This is a reasonably peaceful village of 4,000 people and it is horrendous this should happen.

"It is so frustrating for people. You leave your property and vehicle and go to bed expecting to wake up and all is well.

"With the appointment of a village policeman we felt things were going to improve. It is awful this should happen in a village our size."

Anne-Marie Breach of Suffolk police said officers were appealing for information.

"This is particularly anti-social behaviour and causes a lot of distress and expense to those people whose property has been damaged.

"We believe a number of people may know who the youths involved are and are urging them to come forward with information."

Miss Breach issued a description of the youths.

They are believed to be aged between 15 and 17.

One was described as 5ft 10in tall and of slim build. He was wearing a woollen Beanie hat and a three-quarter length jacket with darker colour at the top and a lighter colour at the bottom.

The second youth was described as 5ft 8in tall and of stocky build. He was possibly wearing a blue zipped up jacket and dark trousers.

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact Pc Derek Owen of Woodbridge police on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
