AS Suffolk awoke to a blanket of snow today, thousands of high school pupils in Ipswich were told to stay at home - or roam the streets.
Meanwhile, in the rural parts of the county, teachers and pupils struggled to their desks - while most primaries opened their doors as normal.
Copleston High was one of the Ipswich schools to close its doors and headteacher Laurie Robinson said he took the decision because many of his staff lived some distance away and because of the weather forecast.
“They were talking about us getting a lot more snow later today and I had to take the decision early in the morning,” he said.
Other high schools that closed were Chantry, Holywells, Kesgrave, Northgate, St Alban's and Westbourne.
