AN inquest into the deaths of Ipswich teenagers Dean Bloomfield and Scott Towler fatally injured by a car in Fore Hamlet was today opened and adjourned.
Ipswich Crown Court heard evidence from Detective Inspector John Quinton on the deaths of the 15-year-old Stoke High School pupils.
Neither of the boys' relatives attended the inquest, held by Greater Suffolk Coroner Peter Dean. A family liaison officer sat at the back of the court.
DI Quinton said: "As a result of a road traffic accident both Scott Towler and Dean Bloomfield sustained injuries.
"A short while after that a suspect in relation to the accident was arrested.
"He is currently in custody. Post mortems were carried out on both boys on Saturday, May 31 by a Home Office pathologist who concluded both boys died from head injuries."
He said as a result of an ongoing investigation a suspect Zulfcar Ali, who was due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court today, was charged with manslaughter.
The inquest heard how 15-year-old Scott Towler died in Ipswich hospital on May 30 and Dean Bloomfield, also 15, died a day later.
Coroner Peter Dean said: "Our thoughts go out to both families in these circumstances."
