A JUDGE warned a young mother she faces jail after a jury convicted her of attacking a bar manager with a baseball bat.

JeanetteChambers, 27, broke down in tears as the jury foreman read out the panel's unanimous verdict yesterdayat Bury St Edmunds Crown Court.

The court had heard Frances Bullock, who ran the Crown pub in Stoke-by-Nayland at the time of the attack last July, was left with a broken arm.

Chambers claimed she only meant to scare her victim after she found her having sex with her boyfriend but the jury agreed she intended to cause Miss Bullock serious injuries.

Mr Recorder John Brooke-Smith told Chambers, who has a five-year-old son with cerebral palsy, she would be dealt with next month once pre-sentence reports had been prepared.

He said: "I feel duty bound to inform you that it's an overwhelming probability you will face a term of custody and you need to make arrangements bearing that in mind."

Chambers, of Docwra Road, Kelvedon, who admitted a charge of grievous bodily harm but denied the more serious count of grievous bodily harm with intent, walked into the pub in July last year.

Miss Bullock said she was standing behind the bar when Chambers came in and started swearing at her and asked her to go outside.

The victim, who denied having a sexual relationship with Chambers' boyfriend Perry Stanhope, said: "I said no and told her she was already barred. She said she didn't care and went out only to return with the bat.

"She came down the left hand side of the pool table and got to the hatch of the bar. I couldn't get to it to put it down before she came through with the bat. I put my arm up as she was swinging it above her shoulder and she struck me, breaking my arm.

"I put my arm up to stop her smashing me in the head with the bat. I then ran down the bar towards the kitchen and she came as far as the kitchen and ran out."

Miss Bullock said Chambers used the bat to hit her on the back and the shoulder shortly after the blow which broke her arm.

Chambers told the court "something clicked" inside her after she found Miss Bullock having sex with her boyfriend.

"I went to the car and got the bat and went back in. I just wanted to scare her. I had no intention of hitting her. My mind went blank – I didn't intend to cause her any injuries.

She was released on bail on condition she resides at her home address and co-operates with the probation service.
