CHARITY golfers have pitched, chipped and bogied their way to raising £6,000 for the Raise the Roof Appeal.More than 90 golfers formed teams of four and took part in a 36-hole golf competition at Cretingham to raise funds for the Cancer Campaign in Suffolk.

More than 90 golfers formed teams of four and took part in a 36-hole golf competition at Cretingham to raise funds for the Cancer Campaign in Suffolk.
Both the competitions, the Sylvia Abbott and Janet Prendergast Memorial Trophy and the afternoon Stableford competition were won by the same team, Beauty and the Beasts which were captained by the only woman playing, Kerry Burns.
The money will go towards building a cancer education and information centre at Ipswich Hospital.
CCIS have been raising the £300,000 needed to build the unit since 1998 and have now teamed up with the Evening Star to raise the final £100,000.
The golf day was organised by cousins Stuart Abbott and Shaun Prendergast who both lost their mothers, Sylvia and Janet, to cancer three years ago and the golf day has become a regular event.
In the previous two years a total of £13,000 has been raised making the total donated to cancer charities almost £20,000.

The cancer education and information centre will give all sectors of the community and not just cancer sufferers and their family, the chance to research into the disease.
Books and the internet will be available and it is hoped that trained professionals will also be stationed there to help out.
There will also be quiet places available for relatives or carers to be able to talk to consultants about the future for their loved ones and what the illness could involve.
The centre is also to help people learn about the varieties of the disease, how to avoid risks of developing cancer, information about self-examination and what to do if you suspect a problem.
