BENCHES and railings in Christchurch Park are being spruced up for spring by offenders completing their community punishments.The Community Service Order team, from the Probation Service, has been working with Ipswich Borough Council's Parks Service for many years on nature conservation and maintenance projects but often their work goes unnoticed.
BENCHES and railings in Christchurch Park are being spruced up for spring by offenders completing their community punishments.
The Community Service Order team, from the Probation Service, has been working with Ipswich Borough Council's Parks Service for many years on nature conservation and maintenance projects but often their work goes unnoticed.
This work will be completed by the spring when it will complement the colourful flower display that nature provides. In the past year the team have also cleaned and painted the park's fences.
Steve Hunt, head ranger of the parks service, said: "The work is done to a good standard and the team seemed quite pleased to be doing something beneficial to the community. They were completely self-sufficient providing their own basic tools and the council reimbursed them for the paint only."
Other recent work the team have carried out includes clearing bracken on Bixley Heath, clearing footpaths in Orwell Country Park and repairing the island in the wildfowl pond in Holywells Park. Next on the agenda is similar maintenance in Alexandra Park.
