SHOCKWAVES are running through part of Ipswich today after a 48-year-old man was brutally attacked in his own home.
Ozzy Antonio was taken to hospital after he interrupted an intruder and became embroiled in a violent struggle.
Two police cars and one ambulance crew attended the scene in London Road, Ipswich, near to the junction with Victoria Street.
The incident happened between 9.45pm and 10.15pm yesterday.
One woman, who declined to be named, lives opposite the scene of the crime and said she was shocked to return home at around 10.10pm to see emergency services at the scene.
She added: "I came home and saw the police and ambulance were here but I didn't know what was going on. Nobody told me about it.
"There were problems here in the summer after a robbery. They were looking for someone behind my back garden then."
Josephine Birr, who runs the Alilacs guesthouse with her husband Derek, said: "We didn't see anything last night. It's quite unusual for me because I usually know what is going on in the street.
"We've had problems with prostitutes around here before but I don't think anything like this has happened."
Another neighbour said the house at the centre of the incident was occupied by an elderly Italian woman and she was visited frequently by various relatives.
Mr Antonio returned home after treatment at Ipswich Hospital and was interviewed by detectives about his ordeal.
Scenes of crime officers were at the address today combing over potential evidence that may lead them to the attacker.
