STEPHEN Blundell who admitted his part in the burglary of an Ipswich firm was nailed by DNA from blood left at the scene.

Blundell, 32, originally from Glamorgan Road in Ipswich, was sentenced to a year's drug treatment and testing order for burgling A J Rawlings in Northgate Street, Ipswich, on January 9,

He smashed a window to steal a £246 flat screen computer monitor but was rumbled after injuring himself on the glass.

Forensic tests found Blundell's blood matched a specimen found at the scene, prosecutor Gareth Davies told South East Suffolk Magistrates.

He was arrested and admitted being there.

In police interview Blundell said spotting the damaged glass he leaned into the premises, injuring himself, but denied he was involved.

The court heard a witness who heard the sound of broken glass saw two men run off, one carrying the computer monitor.

Blundell later admitted the offence.

Ian Persaud, mitigating, asked magistrates to consider a drug treatment and testing order to address the issues causing his offending.

Bench chairwoman, Angela Pratt, sitting in Ipswich, ordered Blundell, formerly of Glamorgan Road, Ipswich, to pay £246 compensation.

He was also ordered to pay £25 towards prosecution costs.

Blundell, who now lives at an Ipswich bail hostel, was made subject to a year's drug treatment and testing order.
