POLICE are today investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered in Ipswich.

Officers were called to the YMCA in Wellington Street after the dead man was found in a room at the building.

It is believed his corpse was discovered late yesterday morning by a member of staff.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police today said: "We were called to the YMCA at 11.30am following the discovery of a man's body in a room.

"At this stage we are not treating the death as suspicious."

A post mortem will now take place to determine the cause of the man's death.

The spokeswoman said it was likely this would be carried out tomorrow.

Formal identification of the deceased has not taken place, however it is believed the man was in his late 20s.

It is not known whether he was a resident at the YMCA at the time of his death or how long he had been dead before being found.

No one from the YMCA was available for comment at the time of going to press, but a worker at the building said a manager would be putting out a statement later today.

Passers-by were alerted to the drama when they saw police officers going into the building through the Wellington Road entrance.

A spokeswoman for the East Anglian Ambulance Service said it had not been called to attend the incident.

However at least one person who drove by while officers were there said they saw the coroner's ambulance outside during the afternoon waiting for the deceased to be brought out.
