SIGNS designed to help drivers navigate their way through a new road layout may end up confusing them even more by directing them to a road which does not actually exist.
Two signs, designed to indicate the change to the one way system in Great Colman Street, are situated at the junction of Crown Street, Fonnereau Road and St Margaret's plane.
On them, Colman is incorrectly spelt as 'Coleman' with an 'e'.
An eagle-eyed reader alerted us to the mistake. He said: "I saw it when I was driving round the area the other day. It's quite a common mistake and probably not the sort of thing that other people would immediately notice but because my name is Colman it jumped out at me."
Stephen Aulde, transportation manager for Ipswich Borough Council, said: "The signs have been up since late October and the mistake was pointed out to us a few days later.
"Because they are only temporary signs it wasn't worth the expense of taking them down and changing them. Now that the new road system is established the signs will be coming down in the next few months."
