The funny man, who hosted the annual Suffolk ball at the County Hotel, Copdock, during the millennium year, was said to be in a stable condition at Cambridgeshire's Papworth Hospital.
The 60-year-old's devoted wife Patsy is keeping a bedside vigil and was reported to be saying that he was "progressing well".
He has been moved out of intensive care, where he was kept for four days after being admittted suffering from agonising chest and back pains. Doctors are carrying out further tests.
The 16 stone, 5ft 4in father had felt unwell since a Variety Club Awards ceremony where he collected a gong for his charity work.
He was admitted to hospital in Bristol but concerned doctors ordered him to be transferred to the world famous heart hospital.
Mr Large, who lives in Somerset, first burst on to the TV screens with his best pal Syd Little when they won Opportunity Knocks in 1971.
