Ipswich’s London Road has reopened after a man was taken to hospital following a serious two car crash which closed the road for over four hours.
Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle collision near the Shell petrol station at the crossroads of the A1214 and B1075, near Sainsbury’s supermarket, at 5.45pm today.
Firefighters fought to remove the man from his vehicle after he was trapped for an hour.
The road remained closed as an investigation into the incident was carried out by firefighters and police officers.
The man has now been taken to Ipswich Hospital after he suffered injuries which are not believed to be serious and the road reopened at around 10pm.
Two fire crews from Ipswich’s Princes Street and one from Ipswich East used cutting equipment to remove roof of the car and free the man.
Traffic was at a standstill for several hours, however it is now moving freely along the busy road.
A Skoda and a Ford Fiesta are known to have been involved in the crash and both cars have now been removed from the scene.
