We’ve now reached the third instalment of our A-Z of Ipswich looking at the history of our most distinguished residents and iconic buildings.
Today we are looking at the Corn Exchange.
The building itself was built in 1812 but like many original corn exchanges, it was remodelled from its primitive market roots to create a live music venue in 1971.
The Corn Exchange hosted hoards of local bands, live music acts and events during the 70s, 80s and 90s and remains a key entertainment venue.
The cost of remodelling was £800,000 and the ‘new’ Corn Exchange, as we now know it, was opened by the Duke of Gloucester on September 22, 1975.
