ONE of the oldest follies in the country sitting on the banks of the River Orwell is set to open its doors in a rare viewing.
Freston Tower, a six-storey red-brick folly in Freston, near Ipswich, England’s oldest town, will be open to the public for free from September 10-13.
Building preservation charity the Landmark Trust is organising the event.
A spokesman said: “These free open days are a unique opportunity for the public to see inside the tower and learn more about the history and restoration of this important local landmark, usually only available as self-catering holiday accommodation through the Landmark Trust.”
The restoration of Freston Tower was completed by the Landmark Trust in 2004, supported by grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage.
